Jr Handlers Young handlers learn important show ring etiquette |
Jr Handlers is a course young handlers can participate in to learn show ring etiquette as well as familiarize themselves with dog handling while the handler is judged not the dog being shown. The purpose of the AAPBA Jr. Handler Program is to educate each handler about dog knowledge and their ability to present their dog for conformation judging. A variety of questions will be asked to each contestant on the following subjects; general dog knowledge, specific knowledge of the dog and breed of dog they are presenting and good sportsmanship also to develop their handling skills, learn about good sportsmanship, owner responsibility and to learn about dogs and dog shows. We encourage all teen and pre-teens to participate. The rules for the Jr Handler program are quite simple. These rules must be followed for safety and to avoid disqualification. 1. No females in heat are allowed in OR near the ring. 2. All dogs must wear a chain choke collar at all times. 3. All dogs must be 5 feet apart at all times. 4. Listen to the judges instructions to get a fair look. 5. Answer all questions asked by the judge. 6. No arguing, profanity or disruptive behavior. 7. There will be no aggresive dogs or aggresion toward any dog tolerated, and any such activity will be dismissed from the ring. 8. No offensive or inappropriate attire. Please dress professional. Casual or formal is accepted. The Jr Handler Program is divided into 2 classes with a required age for the handler.
