Extreme Dog Racing
Dogs race to determine speed
It's time to race! Are you ready for the AAPBA's Extreme Dog Racing? Ready to experience the thrill and
excitement of racing against others to determine who is the fastest? Look at your dog and ask "Who is the most
extreme dog?"
There are three types of races: flat, hurdles and steeplechase. The AAPBA sanctioned track must be a minimum
of 150 feet in length, preferably 200 feet or longer. The track is a straight course with a starting box or release
area at one end. Behind the finish line is an "safe" area that is able to catch dogs right after the dogs run pass
the finish line which is a narrow padded area which funnels and will allow one dog at a time to pass through. In
the starting area rests a lure. The lure is a piece of scented material (fur like) that is attached to a piece of string
that is pulled along by a "lure racing machine". Dogs are muzzled for safety unless they are running in a single
medley. The first dog to cross the designated finish line is the winner. Each class race may be a series of heats,
semis, and finals if needed to find the first place in class. Every dog in its class will compete in the flat, hurdle and
steeplechase races (if offered). Their points in each event will then be tallied up to find the total top-scoring dog
in each class. The host club will decide what events will be held with the minimum of two. All three is most
preferred.

The rules for Extreme Dog Racing must be followed for safety and to avoid disqualification.

1. All dogs must be muzzled when running with more then one dog, Plastic basket muzzles or close-ended cloth
muzzles only. (Dogs must not be able to harm each other) all muzzles must be pre-approved for use by judge.
2. Competitors must have their dogs ready to race when called. If you miss your heat there are no refunds
(owners and their dogs must be ready).
3. Once entries are loaded into the starting box or ready to run, all handlers shall proceed to the finish line in a
timely manner and be ready to receive their dogs.
4. In a hurdle race, all dogs must complete every jump to qualify.
5. If the race is compromised in any way the judge can have the race rerun.
6. Competitors must cross the designated finish line to place in a race.
7. The Racing Judge can disqualify any dog engaged in fighting from any further racing. No refund given.
8. Racing Champions are determined by a run-off of the first place dog in each class in each division. To be
eligible to run in the Championship race, the dog MUST have entered and in both flat and steeplechase classes. A
dog that has not entered in both classes or has not run in both classes is not eligible to run in the Championship
race. In this case, the second place dog becomes eligible to run in the Championship race, assuming it was
entered and ran in both classes.
9. All dogs will be measurement and placed in their classes before the racing Judge gives their safety briefing.

AAPBA Extreme Dog Racing Points
Dogs that race & reach the finals in each event (flat, hurdles and steeplechase) and finish 1st thru 4th place will
be awarded points only. These points go toward the EDR Championship.
Flat
First place = ten points
Second place = six points
Third place =four points
Fourth place = three points
Hurdle
First place = ten points
Second place = six points
Third place =four points
Fourth place = three points
Steeplechase
First place = ten points

After Event Point Structure
After a dog competes in the required runs (Flat, Hurdles and Steeplechase) the points are then tallied up to determine your 1st, 2nd and 3rd place
medallion winners.

See example provided
For example:
If a dog comes in first in the Flat, first in the Hurdles and a second in the Steeplechase the total points would be 26 points.

10 + 10 + 6=
26

26
points then goes up against other tallied up points to determine the 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners.
