AAPBA Code of Ethics |
This A.A.P.B.A. Code of Ethics is presented as a guide for owners and breeders of dogs whose foremost aim should be the welfare and improvement of their chosen breed. The A.A.P.B.A. believes every dog owner should do everything in their power to protect and advance the interest of their chosen Breed and it's standard. They should consider the Breed and the following principles when engaging in any activities involving the breeding, exhibiting, selling of puppies/litters and refrain from any activities which could be detrimental and against the best interest of any breed of dog, A.A.P.B.A. Clubs and The All American Premier Breeds Administration. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
When contemplating a breeding, an ethical owner directs his or her efforts toward breeding dogs of exceptional quality and wisely places the offspring by carefully screening each and every potential buyer. An ethical breeder should sincerely believe their breeding stock represents the standard and is totally sound mentally and physically. An ethical breeder carefully studies, recognizes and weighs the faults and attributes of a stud dog and bitch while researching for factual information about those faults as to whether said faults are genetic or could be inheritable. An ethical breeder should be sincere in his or her intent not to breed dogs with defects which could possibly cause impairment, harm, pain or suffering to the offspring. An ethical breeder breeds only within the standard for the breed while giving meticulous consideration to TEMPERAMENT. An ethical breeder and owner does not sell or give away stock with known genetic faults or defects except under a non-breeding, spay and neuter agreement. An ethical breeder always informs the new owner of any defects BEFORE the sale is completed. He or She should make a sincere effort to make sure that all new owners of both show quality and pet quality dogs will receive training in the proper care of their new dog(s). The ethical breeder always considers the health and growth of his or her bitch and refrains from breeding them too young in age, too old in age or too often. An average is considered no more than 2 out of every 3 heat seasons. Preferably only every other heat season and most preferably not during their first heat season. After a bitch is 7 years old an ethical breeder seeks the professional opinion of a veterinarian regarding the health of the bitch for a proposed breeding. Any deviation from that he or she should consult with competent authorities. An ethical breeder breeds only PUREBRED REGISTERED dogs. An ethical breeder accurately registers his or her stock, keeps correct dates and records of mating, whelping and pedigrees. No registration is ever sold separately from the dog and no registration records are falsified. Ethical owners and breeders never promote, support or raise dogs for fighting or knowingly sell, give or trade dogs that will be used for fighting or illegal purposes. Ethical owners and breeders do not condone or are associated with the facing off, game testing, rolling or pitting of dogs in any way whatsoever. An ethical breeder does not wholesale litters or sell any stock to such places as pet dealers, catalog houses or other sources of commercial distribution. An ethical breeder never engages in the breeding of stock to profit and refuses to breed without giving the utmost consideration to quality and health. An ethical owner and breeder does not supply stock for raffles, "give away" prizes or other similar contests and promotions. An ethical owner and breeder does not raise or breed dogs for profit or as a "money maker". An ethical breeder is available to his or her buyers for any consideration, request or support even after completion of sale. A new owner should be comfortable knowing they can give credit and can rely on the breeder for any concern while periodically informing of his or her dogs welfare, achievements, problems etc... An ethical owner and breeder NEVER allows his or her dog to roam. All dogs are kept under sanitary conditions and administered maximum health protection through regular fecal checks, worming (when necessary), inoculations and periodic examinations by a veterinarian. An ethical owner and breeders dogs are always treated humanely. When a pet must be euthanized or destroyed an ethical owner and breeder must make sure the animal experiences death free from any pain or suffering. The ethical owner is informed and follows all the Rules of the A.A.P.B.A. Clubs and the All American Premier Breeds Administration. No ethical owner engages in intentionally false or misleading advertising or other falsifications regarding their dog. He or she never intentionally maligns or insults any judges, fellow competitors or fellow dog owners by making false or misleading statements regarding their dogs or breeding practices. He or she should calmly and objectively present any misconduct to the proper representatives of the Registry. Each dog owner feels obligated to protect the interest of any dog breed by conducting him or herself in a manner reflecting credit upon themselves, their breed, A.A.P.B.A. Clubs, Conference and the All American Premier Breeds Administration. The All American Premier Breeds Administration believes in a happy healthy life of a dog. If you have knowledge and information on certain health issues common in your dogs bloodline and breed the AAPBA supports having your dog tested and certified through the national dog health organizations that exist today. |
